Hinterland and itineraries

RIMINI
Ancient and new, at the same time, the city of Rimini has monuments belonging to a noble past but, at the same time, a modern tourist organization: a really ideal resort, for people who wish to relax on the beach (15 kms.!), or enjoy the discotheques, and admire the treasures of arts handed on from the past. Rimini, founded by the Romans in 268 b.C., has always represented a strategic place for any kind of commercial activities. The Lordship of the Malatesta began towards the end of the 13th century when they transformed Rimini in a real laboratory of culture and arts in general. Today the history of the city is witnessed by remarkable monuments such as the Arc of Augusto, the Bridge of Tiberio and the Tempio Malatestiano, which embellish the historical center.

REPUBLIC OF SAN MARINO
Tradition says that the Republic of San Marino was founded in 301 and therefore it’s the most ancient republic in the world, with more than 1700 years of history! This small Republic is surrounded by a great number of hills and the few people who have always lived there created, since the beginning, a political system based on special rules and institutions which supervise the development of democracy regulating every aspect of the city life and international participation. In this period, characterised by important social and political changes, we can reasonably affirm that San  Marino still represents a healthy and free republic still able to respect the human rights.

SAN LEO
A sharp rock in the Appenines, surrounded by cliffs and hills sweetly diving into the sea; ancient houses built between an imposing fortress and a bell tower; an interesting mix of  history and legends, sacred and profane elements, terrific prisons and peaceful churches: these are the elements which you can find when visiting San Leo. During a long period characterised by the wars between Goti and Bizantini, Longobardi and Franchi, San Leo conquered its reputation of untouchable fortress. In 963 Berengario II appointed San Leo as the capital of the Italian Reign. The very small, but powerful city of San Leo was sieged, for several months, by the emperor of Germany Ottone I.

VERUCCHIO
Verucchio has a very ancient and noble soul, due to the presence of a still mysterious civilization which we can reasonably define as one of the most extraordinary in Italy. Between the mid-11th century and the 6th century b.C. a pre-Etruscan population was established here with communities ruled by authorities known as “shepherd princes”. Although this population  had many elements in common with the one living in the great center of Villanova (near Bologna), the richness and particularity of the remains, has led archaeologists to define it as a real  Verucchio civilization.

SANTARCANGELO
Santarcangelo has something really magical, due to its noble and mysterious atmosphere, its history, and its places dating back to thousands of years such as the “Pieve” (Parish Church). Santarcangelo is the capital of poetry in dialect; its traditions are still alive and its events and ancient fairs (San Michele in September and San Martino in November) really deserve a visit. We also suggest to visit its elegant churches, the beautiful Piazza Ganganelli, the narrow alleys of the ancient village, the Rocca Malatestiana, the grottos, the Museum of the Tamburello and the Ethnographic Museum (Uses and traditions of the Romagna people.

GRADARA
This village, with a typical medieval aspect, lies on a hill overlooking the Via Flaminia. Gradara is surrounded by 14th century-walls with rectangular bastions. A second wall, with towers and an independent gate, guaranteed an additional protection of the fortress. The whole perimeter of the walls was completely accessible to patrols. The western side of the walls is reinforced by a powerful, polygonal bastion, the Rocchetta.
